It's stupid how many times I thought something was wrong when the sound stopped for the narrator to speak.

Watched for a project I’m working on that may or may not end up on the channel, genuinely not sure. Very much in love with this movie. The way it starts with sex as a way of depicting union and ends in a split as though this whole thing was one giant transformation into something that’s been subtly (debatable) teased throughout the entire film. That something being how society, specifically Mexico at this time, disrupts love. In the end you feel sad but not in a way that’s surprising, and it’s because they basically show what is inevitable throughout the whole thing only for it to happen to a relationship you felt couldn’t possibly be broken. Julio and Tenoch are…

so, the two teenagers have a manifesto. the woman has a manifesto. everyone has a manifesto. let's see about this film's manifesto.
Rule 1: there are two boys and a woman. boys love girls. girls love boys. boys love boys. don't worry about it.
Rule 2: the country side is hot and expansive and your car is so small and limited. you stare out the glass and try to understand. don't think too hard.
Rule 3: don't ask the woman you've tricked into coming along on a road-trip to a beach you've made up too many questions. you don't want to know.
Rule 4: there are also things even your best friend doesn't need to know. bury your resentment of…

Devastating. I found myself tearing up when they finally reach the ocean. The movie captures that magical feeling you get when it feels like the whole world stopped spinning just for you. That feeling, when you have it, provides such relief. But it ends, of course, and the film pushes you back into reality in a way that is so deft and honest. It ends with everything piling up at once and leaves you paying the bill, still grappling with the feelings you never asked for in the first place.

there's a moment in this where Diego Luna tries to climb a tree while holding a cigarette and it's one of the funniest bits of physical comedy I've seen in a long time
